‘He Needs to Get a Fight’- Michael Chandler Claims Justin Gaethje Has Been Declining a Fight Against Him

Michael Chandler made an impressive UFC debut with a first-round stoppage over Dan Hooker, one of the biggest cards of this year. After that ‘Iron’ was thrown right into a title fight against Charles Oliveira earlier this year.

Chandler started out the fight well and won the first round convincingly. Unfortunately for ‘Iron’ just 20-seconds into round two, he was caught by an inch-perfect left hook that stunned him. ‘Do Bronx’ piled on the pressure and secured a finish shortly after.

Since then, Chandler has been gunning for a fight against a top-ranked lightweight. He has his eyes set on Justin Gaethje. In a recent Instagram live session, he shared what the hold-up behind the fight not being made is. He said, “I’ll tell you what, I’ve said Justin Gaethje’s name no less than 100 times since I’ve signed with the organization,” Chandler said. “He’s been asked to fight me three or four different times. Every time he’s declined. He and I are ranked two spots away from each other. He has not fought since last October. He needs to get a fight in if he thinks he’s going to fight for the title. For some reason him and his camp have no interest in fighting me”

‘Iron’ continued, “So that’s the fight I want, that’s the fight I think it should be. Two of the best guys fighting. It’s also a fight that I know the fans want to see. I know that’s a fight you guys want to see, so that’s my hope, that’s my thought. And I don’t really get why we haven’t heard anything yet”

Justin Gaethje vs Michael Chandler will be pure violence and entertainment for the fans

A fight between Gaethje and Chandler makes perfect sense at the moment. Both men came up short in title fights in their last outings and are ranked number two and four respectively. Both fighters have an extremely aggressive fight style and is something that fans would love to see.

‘Iron’ also mentioned that the same management company represents Gaethje and Makhachev and they’re more interested in matching up Islam against Chandler. And ‘Iron’ has no interest in facing a guy who is ranked below him and has not beaten anyone in the top 10 thus far.
