Linda Robson wants to welcome a migrant family into her home after her children move out, with the actress saying her ‘heart goes out to them’.

As part of the Loose Women panel, Linda spoke about how there has been a record number of migrants crossing the English Channel in one day.

The Home Office said that at least 430 people made the crossing across the Dover Strait on Monday, a new daily record.

Asked if she thinks we should be making it harder for migrants to cross the channel, Linda responded: ‘I don’t think we can make it any harder. They’re risking their lives in these dinghies and boats to try and get away from a war-torn country. My heart goes out to them.’

The 63-year-old added: ‘I was in Paris a few years ago and I’d never really thought about migrants or immigrants or anything, and I saw on a roundabout there, hundreds of families with their children in little tents, makeshift tents. And the kids were holding their hands out to us to give them money and it just broke my heart.

‘Everywhere you go in Islington, there’s signs saying, “Migrants welcome” and that’s what I’d like to say. My kids will be moving out soon – Louis and Bobbie, they’ll be going – so all that will be left in my house is me and my husband.

‘He don’t know I’m gonna say this on telly today but I would welcome a family into my house. We’ll have the space once the kids have gone. And I’d love it.’

Gary Lineker previously spoke out about wanting to welcome a refugee into his home.

‘I have had so much connection with refugees over the last couple of years,’ the former footballer told the Daily Mirror last year.

‘I have met scores of young refugees through football schemes and they are genuinely lovely kids and they appreciate any help they can get.’

After hundreds of migrants crossed the English Channel on Monday, Home Secretary Priti Patel announced a £55million agreement with France to increase patrols to prevent boats reaching the UK.

Ms Patel said: ‘The British people have simply had enough of illegal migration and the exploitation of migrants by criminal gangs.

‘Illegal immigration is driven by serious organised criminals and people smugglers.

‘The public are rightly angry that small boats are arriving on our shores, facilitated by appalling criminal gangs who profit from human misery and put lives at risk.’

If passed, Ms Patel’s new asylum bill – branded by critics as ‘anti-refugee’ – would allow the UK to send asylum seekers to a ‘safe third country’ and to submit claims at a ‘designated place’ determined by the secretary of state.

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV.
