REPORT: F2 Drivers Callum Ilott and Robert Schwartzman Front Runners to Replace Antonio Giovinazzi at Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo is currently eighth in the standings with just 2 points in 9 races. Although team principal Fred Vasseur has denied that the team is already looking for a different lineup for next season, Antonio Giovinazzi’s seat might be in danger for 2022.

The Italian driver has only scored one point in nine races and has been outperformed by his experienced teammate Kimi Raikkonen in races. Giovinazzi has struggled to convert his good qualifying performances into solid race results.

The second Alfa Romeo seat would be between Ilott and Schwartzman

According to British journalist Joe Saward, Formula 2 driver Robert Schwartzman and Ferrari academy driver Callum Illot are the front runners for Gio’s seat next season.

“The second Alfa Romeo seat would be between Callum Ilott and Robert Schwartzman, two Ferrari Academy drivers,” said Saward.

“Although the brand does not like to replace the only Italian driver on the grid, Stellantis wants more performance and does not care at all about nationality,” said Saward.

Valtteri Bottas could also replace Kimi Raikkonen: Saward

As reported by Soy Motor, Saward also stated that the Swiss team could also replace Kimi Raikkonen at the end of the season. Kimi is 41 years old currently and has not signed a contract for the next season.

And if that happens, Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas could replace Kimi if the German team drops the Finnish driver.

“Bottas will probably end up at Alfa Romeo. The team wants a named driver to replace Räikkönen and the owner of the brand welcomes continuing in the line of Finnish drivers,” he added.

All in all, there are several factors that play in role in deciding Alfa Romeo’s lineup next season. But if it were up to you, which two drivers would you choose for the Swiss team? Let us know!
