On 17th July, the super-welterweight division was all set to get its ultimate king, either in Jermell Charlo or Brian Castano. Both these pugilists waged a war against each other and took the fight until the last bell. However, this bout ended with a draw, leaving the fans and the entire boxing fraternity disheartened and fuming.
Charlo and Castano traded enormous blows with each other and kept the boxing fans glued to the TV screens throughout. Moreover, the Argentinian boxer had Charlo on the ropes.
Many boxing pundits and fighters felt it was ‘El Boxi’ Castano who won this bout. Hence, given the result, there should be an immediate rematch between the two.
That said, Jermell Charlo, in his recent Instagram post, addressed all these concerns and gave an honest opinion on the same. He wrote, “Brian Castano is one hell of a better fighter than anyone gave him credit for and he came to fight for his life Saturday. If fights are scored as a whole I landed the harder and better shots, but boxing isn’t scored that way.”
“When we run it back, just like I adjusted in Harrison II, there will be no doubt about the result.”
After this fight, Charlo was on the receiving end of a huge backlash coming from fans and fighters. But in his above-mentioned post, he agreed he didn’t do his part getting a ‘KO’. Charlo had his moments in this fight, but he just didn’t seem to be in his true momentum that night.
Jermell Charlo vs Brian Castano 2 – Will it be a career-defining fight for the two?
Charlo and Castano definitely showed their intent on becoming the undisputed super-welterweight champ last weekend. Though ‘Iron Man’ didn’t really show up with his best version, he still had the fire in himself to become the ultimate king.
That said, a rematch between these two will undoubtedly be a career-defining bout for both of them. And the fans will only get to see a bigger, better, and much-improved version of both these pugilists.
With that, it’ll be interesting to see when this high-class rematch takes place.
