Caitlyn Jenner is tipped to make an appearance on Australia’s Big Brother VIP, but how she got into the country is something its leader Scot Morrison just can’t answer.

Despite the country’s incredibly strict border controls and quarantine laws – which have left tens of thousands of its own citizens stranded overseas and separated from family for the past 18 months – the Prime Minister couldn’t actually say how the reality star managed to get in when quizzed this week.

The likes of Caitlyn and Katie Hopkins flying into Australia for rumoured appearances on the celebrity instalment (as well as Meghan Markle’s brother, according to latest reports) had many a punter puzzled, and Nova radio hosts Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton put Mr Morrison on the spot in search of answers.

The rolling out of the red carpet for the reality stars was another blow seeing as multiple cities and states in the country have been plunged into strict lockdowns after a surge in positive Covid cases recently.

‘With the whole nation in lockdown, ScoMo, how did Caitlyn Jenner get in?’ one of the hosts asked, employing the PM’s nickname.

After a lengthy pause, Mr Morrison appeared completely stumped as he asked: ‘Sorry?’

He was asked again, amid reports Caitlyn is in quarantine: ‘Caitlyn Jenner, she’s in for Big Brother VIP. How did she get in?’

‘Oh, that would’ve been done with the various states, I assume, and working through what is a pretty lengthy exemption process,’ Mr Morrison replied.

‘That’s not something I could give you any specifics on.’

At the suggestion Caitlyn received special treatment to get into the country, which has had its borders effectively closed since March 2020, with a strict cap on weekly international arrivals and borders between its own states closed at several points during the pandemic, Mr Morrison stuttered: ‘That’s… that’s taken in other levels.’

It’s been reported Caitlyn – who has seemingly put her campaign for Governor of California on hold to travel Down Under – is currently in hotel quarantine before her appearance on the programme, with claims she’s been paid $500,000 (£268k).

Katie Hopkins recently caused outrage and was swiftly put back on a plane to the UK after she was alleged to have broken the strict quarantine rules – which she denied.

The former Apprentice star shared a now-deleted Instagram and YouTube video in which she called Covid-19 lockdowns the ‘greatest hoax in human history’ and said she was deliberately breaking quarantine rules by refusing to wear a mask in the Sydney hotel.

Bosses at Seven Network, which is due to air Big Brother VIP, later confirmed they axed Hopkins from the new line-up.

They said in a statement: ‘Seven Network and Endemol Shine Australia confirm that Katie Hopkins is not part of Big Brother VIP.

More: Coronavirus

‘Seven and Endemol Shine strongly condemn her irresponsible and reckless comments in hotel quarantine.’

Australian politicians also condemned Katie’s behaviour, including the country’s immigration minister Alex Hawke, who said the border force had launched an investigation.
