UFC women’s flyweight rising contenders Maycee Barber and Miranda Maverick are gearing up to clash at UFC Fight Night: Sandhagen vs Dillashaw this Saturday. ‘The Future’ would be keen on snapping her two-fight losing streak against a confident Maverick.
Prior to their fight, both the fighters appeared for the media day conference. They both discussed their upcoming match and the strategies for it.
Miranda, who will fight in her 3rd match for the promotion, revealed it is bad matchmaking from the promotion. According to her, they should fight the older women in the division rather than fighting with each other.
“That’s the only fight I didn’t want because I think we are very young prospects and I think we both have a big future in this sport,” Miranda said. “She (Maycee) is already on a two-fight losing streak, she is gonna be on a three-fight losing streak.”
Miranda termed the present state of the division as stagnant. According to her, there are a bunch of older women who need to fight the young guns.

“I think they should get these older women to fight some of these young prospects coming up instead of knocking us out against each other,” she added.

“I just think it’s a bad matchmaking from that perspective, good matchmaking from the perspective of our own styles,” she further added.
Miranda Maverick vs Maycee Barber- recent stats
Maverick (9-2) has featured in just 2 matches for UFC. She would have made her promotional debut against Mara Romero Borella at UFC on ESPN: Poirier vs. Hooker. But she pulled out and faced Liana Jojua instead on October 24, 2020, at UFC 254. She won the fight via TKO because of a doctor stoppage between rounds one and two.
She next faced Gillian Robertson at UFC 260 on March 27, 2021. Maverick won the fight via unanimous decision. This was a rescheduled match after UFC postponed their match after Robertson fell ill earlier.
Barber, meanwhile, is currently on a two-fight skid. She fought Roxanne Modafferi on January 18, 2020, at UFC 246 and lost the one-sided fight by unanimous decision.
After recovering from a knee injury, she faced Alexa Grasso on February 13, 2021, at UFC 258. She lost the fight via a unanimous decision.
It’s a crucial situation for Barber as one more loss could prove to be her last fight in the division. Meanwhile, Maverick would look to continue her winning momentum. The flyweight division is currently stacked up with Valentina Shevchenko at its helm.
