The incident between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen on lap 1 of the British Grand Prix ended up triggering visible emotions from the Red Bull F1 crew, in which Toto Wolff, too, took a few hits.
While Christian Horner and Dr. Helmut Marko started off the proceedings, Verstappen’s father, Jos Verstappen joined the war of words. The fact that his son had gone through one of the most intense crashes of the 2021 F1 season, left the ex-F1 driver in a distressed state.
What’s more interesting is that Jos had brewed up a storm with Mercedes F1 boss, Wolff, according to F1 Insider. However, after potentially laying such strong claims on Sunday, the senior Verstappen denied having an interview with the F1 media at all earlier on Thursday.
The timeline of the story surrounding Jos Verstappen and Wolff
And F1 Insider had claimed that Jos demanded Wolff never to call him again. Of course, one might acknowledge his high and rather raw emotions, considering the victim was his son. However, just days after the ‘interview’, Jos opened up that he never attended an interview with F1 Insider.

Jos clarified the same on Twitter. The Dutchman tweeted, “Haven’t had a conversation with F1 Insider at all“.
Subsequently, F1 Insider, too, removed the interview from its site. Hence, there is a wide array of uncertainty over the actual truth. But, as of now, Jos never seemed to have had a talk with the F1 media after Max suffered the hefty crash at Silverstone.
Toto Wolff never took Jos Verstappen’s words seriously
During an interview with RTL, Wolff opened up that Jos’s bitter reactions were understandable. “Of course, a father who rightly reacts very emotionally here because his son has had a serious accident,” he said.
“Understandable from their perspective. You have to respect this emotional state. The competition between Red Bull, their drivers, and us was already there.”

Hence, the heated situation seems to have calmed down in time, with neither Wolff nor his friend, Jos, showing any kind of frustration against each other. So, will the duo manage to talk this out and possibly clear the air between themselves?
