Love Island bosses broke the cardinal rule to feed Amy Hart huge Gavin and Stacey news

Every year, when the Love Island cast is jetted off to Majorca for a summer of love, every effort is made to keep them away from the outside world.
They’re not given any news from outside, they can’t talk to friends and family from home (except in exceptional circumstances) and they’re not even able to know the time.
However, former islander Amy Hart revealed that the producers bent the rules on one occasion to tell her about a deeply important event – the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special being announced.
Amy explained: ‘When we were in lockdown before [Love Island began], me and my chaperone watched Gavin and Stacey start to finish because it’s my favourite TV show and she’d never seen it.’
The star added that she was able to see her chaperone during her time in the villa to receive some news about her godson.
‘Then my chaperone said, “Okay, I’ve been given permission to tell you something but you can’t tell any of the other islanders. I’ve only been given permission for you to know,”‘ Amy recalled.
‘I was like, “Oh my god, have I got a secret task already? Do I know someone that’s going in?” She was like, “There’s gonna be a Christmas special of Gavin and Stacey.”‘

Now that’s the kind of dedication we’re here for.
While the islanders are generally kept away from the outside world, it’s not the first time an exception has been made.
This year’s cast were allowed to watch England play against Italy in the Euro 2020 final and, in a previous series, islanders were allowed to vote in the Brexit referendum.
Amy, who was coupled up with Curtis Pritchard before she left the villa, has provided some stellar inside goss, with the star also revealing how much the producers get involved.
‘People think it’s scripted, it’s not scripted – you’re watching a structured reality show,’ the 29-year-old pointed out, speaking to Metro.co.uk in conjunction with William Hill

‘It’s not about creating entertainment because we did that ourselves. It’s more about keeping the story flowing so it’s easy for viewers to watch. If something happens, they want to get your view on it – so who do you want to go and talk to about it?
‘A lot of the time, we’d do it on our own. So it’s just if they need a nudge in the right direction.’
Meanwhile, she pointed out that the producers sometimes had to step in if the islanders chose to sleep outside, due to the blazing sun.
‘I think it’s well-known that the villa time zone is you start filming at 10pm and you go to bed at three, four or five o’clock in the morning, so you get woken up by the sun two hours after you’ve gone to sleep. It’s so hot.
‘I think [when I was in] Casa Amor, it was the hottest day of the year in Majorca so literally the producers kept having to wake us up and move us to the shade from a duty of care point of view.’

Love Island has previously confirmed its duty of care protocols, which include comprehensive psychological support, social media training for the islanders, and a ‘proactive aftercare package’.
