The album was shortlisted for the 2007 Mercury Music Price, and was nominated for British album at the 2007 Brit Awards, and won the award for best female pop vocal album at the 2008 Grammys.
Amy also made history as the first female artist and the first British musician to win five Grammys in one night, picking up gongs for best new artist, song of the year and record of the year for her hit single Rehab.
The singer had struggled with substance abuse throughout most of her career, and prior to her death, had begun drinking again after a period of sobriety.

Her childhood friend, Michael Collins, recently revealed how he feels ‘guilt’ over her death as he was ‘afraid’ to confront the singer about her addiction issues.
Speaking to Ranvir Singh on Lorraine, he admitted: ‘There’s still a lot of guilt associated with her death that comes back to you…
‘Amy was always so headstrong and she would do what she wanted, she’d cut off her nose to spite her face, that was just her kind of character. There were times when I saw her lose some good friends who were challenging her over the amount of drink she was drinking.

‘There were times when I wanted to say something but maybe selfishly I was too afraid of losing her, I was too afraid that she would just cut me off and then I might never speak to her again. Put yourself in those shoes and it’s harder than you think.’
And Amy’s former theatre school headteacher, Sylvia Young, also paid tribute to her, hailing her an ‘extraordinary’ talent.

She told Metro.co.uk how Amy was ‘sensational from the moment she auditioned’ for her eponymous performing arts school.
Sylvia described the star-in-the-making as ‘quirky, maddening, irritating but with a good heart’ and a ‘God-given’ talent which shone through, even in her early teens at the school in Marble Arch, London.
