Gangs Of London season 2 filming shut down over Covid-19

The wait is agonising (Picture: Sky UK)

There is going to be even more of a wait for season 2 of hit, gritty drama Gangs Of London as the Sky production has been temporarily shut down thanks to the growing fears of Covid-19, in the wake of the Delta variant.

Despite the so-called Freedom Day on June 26, cases have continued to rise in the UK and many shows and films have been delayed and postponed from filming.

Filming on season 2 of Sky and AMC’s gangland drama has been halted for 10 days after a crew member tested positive for Covid on Thursday.

a Sky spokesperson explained: ‘Throughout this time, the safety of our colleagues and customers remains our number one priority.

‘Gangs of London Season 2 production has temporarily been suspended with cast and crew now self-isolating. We will return to production as soon as it is safe to do so.’

Returning cast to the hard hitting series include Ṣọpẹ Dìrísù, Michelle Fairley, Brian Vernel, Pippa Bennett-Warner, Lucian Msamati, Paapa Essiedu, Valene Kane, Orli Shuka, Asif Raza, and Narges Rashid.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the second series after an extremely intense first run of the programme.

Filming for the season had only just commenced in June before this temporary shut down.

The news follows delays which have hit shows including Bridgerton, Australian soap Home and Away and The House Of Dragon.

Actor Joe Cole is not mentioned in the information for the new series, with fans still waiting anxiously to see whether his character Sean will feature in upcoming episodes following the cliffhanger ending in season one.

The second season will be set a year after the events of the first season. It picks up following the collapse of the Wallace Dumani empire, where ‘order is lacking, and the energy and chaos of a gold rush threatens the city with gangland anarchy.

The synopsis reads: ‘The Investors are viewing the city as a place of ruin and decide enough is enough. Licensing a new gang to restore stability, drama instead ensues. These brutal enforcers bring a new kind of authority, coldly designed to terrorise the other gangs into submission.

‘Anyone doing business in the city must now go through them, and our gangs must decide where their loyalties lie if they are to survive. Who will win the battle for the soul of London?’
