Gennady Golovkin’s Next Fight to Happen on December 28 – Opponent and Venue Revealed

The boxing fans have been eagerly waiting to see the prime icon of the sport, Gennady Golovkin, back in the ring soon. The Kazakhstan boxer last made an appearance under the big lights in December 2020. But since then, he hasn’t bagged any noteworthy opponent for his comeback bout.

However, the fans have a piece of positive news. As per World Boxing News, ‘GGG’s team is in talks to finalize his bout with Ryota Murata, the WBA middleweight champ. Given that Golovkin holds the IBF middleweight strap, if he battles out Murata, then it’ll be for a massive title unification on December 28.

Golovkin‘s potential return to the ring has been in the pipeline for a while now. Hence, the fans would be genuinely hoping to see his fight against Murata getting finalized.

In his last fight, ‘GGG’ showed his brilliance by going full throttle against Kamil Szeremeta. The fight went in the 39-year-olds favor in the initial rounds itself. He did not take his foot off the pedal and claimed the win. Consequently, Golovkin solidified his position in the stacked 160-pound division.

Ever since that fight, his hardcore fans wished to see him going up against the Mexican star, Canelo Alvarez. However, as the Mexican is occupied with his pursuits at 168 lbs, there was no way he would face anyone without a super-middleweight belt.

‘GGG’ and his team might definitely have had knowledge about this, and that’s principally why they aren’t waiting for the Canelo fight.

Should Gennady Golovkin move to 168-pounds after battling Ryota Murata?

Golovkin, in his extensive boxing career, has displayed his class at many weight classes. Also, he’s never faced problems in bulking up and making weight for his fights at his current weight class. That said, if he faces and vanquishes Murata in his next outing, ‘GGG’ should definitely think about moving up.
