“Hundred Times More Legendary”: Daniil Medvedev Says He Had No Problem Not Playing on Center Court Due to Roger Federer

World No.2 Daniil Medvedev is having quite a remarkable season so far. Although he failed to reach even the quarters of the Wimbledon Championships 2021, he surely delivered some brilliant performances on the clay and grass court this year.

In a recent interview, Daniil Medvedev faced a really strange question. He was asked that how did he feel when he didn’t get to play many matches on the Center Court at the Wimbledon Championships 2021 despite being the World No.2 player. Interestingly, the Russian came up with a pretty impressive response.

“In fact, at Wimbledon, there was a somewhat logical story. There should have been two men when the top of the bracket played – they were Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. Accordingly, when it was our day, there was supposed to be the only men’s match. The organizers put Roger Federer there and this is understandable. Every year can be the last for him in his career, he is a legend of sports, so everything is fine here,” said Medvedev in the interview. (Translated via Google Translate)

The Russian revealed that since Roger Federer was playing at the Grand Slam, the organizers prioritized him and that was completely understandable to him as the Swiss Maestro was probably playing the Championships for the last time.

“Is ten times the legend”- Daniil Medvedev on Roger Federer

Medvedev got to play just one match on the Center Court. It was against Hubert Hurkacz in the pre-quarters which he apparently lost in five sets.

In the same interview, he expressed that he surely wanted to play more on the Center Court but didn’t mind leaving it for Federer. He stated that the Swiss Maestro is a legend of the sport and thus, deserves to play there before him.

“Naturally, there is resentment. I wanted to play on the central court of Wimbledon, being the second racket of the world, but there is a logical explanation for everything, so I don’t really worry about this. Again, Roger is ten times the legend … But what is ten – a hundred times more legendary than I am. So it’s okay,” added the World No.2 player.

After the grass-court season, Daniil Medvedev will be representing his nation at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 now. He will be facing Alexander Bublik in his first-round match tomorrow. Will he be able to secure an Olympic Gold this year?
