Loose Women’s Nadia Sawalha has praised Hugo Hammond for calling out Toby Aromolaran behaviour during last night’s shocking episode of Love Island.

After Toby pied off Chloe Burrows within 24 hours of Abigail Rawlings arriving into the villa, Hugo wasn’t having it and revealed his true feelings in an impassioned speech.

PE teacher Hugo blew up at Toby in some of the most chaotic reality TV scenes ever, that saw him dump Georgia Townend in favour of saving Chloe.

Nadia said that watching the scene made her ’emotional’ and she hoped it encouraged other men to speak up for women.

‘You could see he was actually very scared to do that and it takes a lot to stand up and risk what other people will think of you. She was standing there, feeling very vulnerable, I thought it was brilliant,’ she said.

‘I thought he was a real hero last night. We are always saying that we need men in our battle as women to change things and we need them to be a part of the conversation.

‘I think there are a lot of men that would like to speak up and say “actually I don’t think that’s a great way to treat that person”. Bravery to me is being scared and doing it anyway and he did that last night, I found that quite moving.’

Fellow panellist Jane Moore agreed with Nadia and said it was a good thing for younger viewers to watch.

‘The audience is quite young for Love Island so I think it’s a really good message,’ she said.

‘There are boys within packs of boys who don’t agree with what they’re seeing but are too scared to speak up. Someone on a show like that, that is very youth-targeted, is really powerful.’

Cohost Kaye Adams asked Stacey Solomon whether situations like this put pressure on ‘good boys’ to ‘stand up and call people out’.

‘Sometimes I just think it should be common human practice regardless of what gender you put in front of it. There is a moral compass that we should all try and live by,’ Stacey responded.

‘I think we do this thing with men when we say “yes men should be doing this” but I also think women should also be doing that, I think it’s just a human element.

‘The hardest thing for anyone is to stand up and go against the crowd and say you don’t believe what they’re doing.’

This episode of Love Island is being labelled as one of the most dramatic episodes of the series so far.
