Reports: WWE Preparing for the First-Ever Queen of the Ring Tournament

It has been three years since WWE held its first (and last) all-women pay-per-view with female wrestlers from past and present. There is no news on when Evolution will return, but there is a new opportunity on the horizon.

After the all-women PPV, WWE is looking forward to hosting its first-ever Queen of the Ring tournament this year, WrestlingInc reported. The company tentatively plans “for the event to be a main roster show airing on Peacock.”

However, the plannings are on an infantile stage and no dates are announced yet. WWE previously held their King of The Ring tournament in 2019 with Baron Corbin winning the event. Right now, Shinsuke Nakamura is the unofficial King of The Ring.

WWE’s last all-women PPV was in the October of 2018. That event was headlined by then-RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey defeating Nikki Bella. Other matches included a 20-woman Battle Royale, and all Women’s titles were defended.

The concept of Queen of the Ring was conceived last year. But it was ultimately canceled for multiple reasons including the covid-19 pandemic.

Triple H revealed his thoughts on an all-woman PPV in WWE

After Mickie James left WWE, she appeared in NWA and started preparing for an all-woman PPV. The PPV is named ‘NWA EmPowerrr’ and will take place on August 28.

Ahead of this, Triple H was asked about the successor to WWE Evolution in the post-show media call prior to NXT TakeOver: In Your House. He joked, “Haven’t we already done one?”

Triple H revealed that the PPV will be on the cards but was not a priority at the moment. “I was one of the biggest drivers of it and will we do another all-women’s event down the line? Possibly. But it’s not the must-have at the moment,” he said.
“I think we do an amazing job of displaying our female athletes and is it perfect? No. Will it always be in flux? Yes, but I think we do a pretty good job. And my opinion – again, my opinion – the best female performers in the world are in WWE. And then if they’re not, they want to be.”
His words caught quite some negative attention from the likes of AEW Women’s Champion Britt Baker, former NWA Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa, and Impact Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo.

To conclude it all, it is refreshing to see WWE again working for another all-women event. If the Queen of the Ring tournament takes place, it would be the second-ever all-woman event in WWE history.
