Susanna Reid gives special shout out to Piers Morgan as Good Morning Britain finally beats This Morning to win big prize

Susanna Reid made sure to congratulate her former ‘TV husband’ Piers Morgan last night as Good Morning Britain won Best Talk Show at the National Reality TV Awards.

The partnership became one of the most divisive but loved with fans, as throughout the pandemic they grilled squirming MPs brave enough to face them on the ITV news programme, combined with explosive opinions and blistering rows with guests.

In turn, GMB was crowned best talk show over the likes of Loose Women, This Morning and The One Show.

Celebrating the news, Susanna made sure Piers was also invited to the party.

She tweeted: ‘Congratulations to everyone @gmb for this – including @piersmorgan obvs – as viewers voted us Best Talk Show,’ alongside a giant trophy emoji.

The win will taste even sweeter for Piers, who regularly moaned about Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield beating GMB regularly for This Morning in every award show going.

Piers quit Good Morning Britain back in March after sparking a record number of complaints to Ofcom over his comments dismissing Meghan Markle’s claims she had suicidal thoughts that were ignored by Buckingham Palace.

GMB bosses issued the presenter with an ultimatum: apologise on air or leave.

He chose the latter with immediate effect.

Since then, the programme’s ratings have continued to slide, as Susanna is joined by a variety of co-hosts with the likes of Richard Madeley, Adil Ray and Martin Lewis taking his seat.

ITV boss Ken Lygo has said Piers is ‘irreplaceable’ on the show.

‘Piers is a special thing. You can’t replace somebody like him. There is nobody like Piers, for good or bad,’ Lygo said.

‘We have a roster of presenters, including Ben [Shephard], Susanna [Reid], Charlotte [Hawkins], and Kate [Garraway].

More: Good Morning Britain

‘They’re all stepping up and doing a few more days than they would have done… We’ll mix and match until we feel what the right thing is to do. There isn’t a single person [who can replace him].’

Piers is yet to announce his next move, but has been linked to GB News. However, since its ratings have plummeted – at points to zero viewers – his addition seems unlikely.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
