WATCH: Eugenie Bouchard Starts Training After Recovering From Career-Threatening Injury

Former World No.5 Eugenie Bouchard is currently recovering from surgery to repair a torn subscapularis in her right shoulder. Accordingly, she has not touched a tennis racquet since Monterrey Open in March 2021.

Moreover, while experts believed that such an injury could end careers before their time, Bouchard had other plans. Determined to return to the court soon, the 27-year-old Canadian underwent rigorous rehabbing, and as a result, she is now back on the treadmill, all ready to train.

Eugenie Bouchard updates on her recovery process

While most tennis players will soon contest at Tokyo Olympics, Bouchard will have to work on her recovery. Earlier, she even felt heartbroken, missing the Wimbledon Championships tournament due to her injury.

As we head into Women’s semi-finals day, here’s 2014 Wimbledon finalist @geniebouchard on Sport Today on @BBCWorld last week. This is where she talked about her recovery, potential return & missing the British accent! Hopefully she’ll be back here again next year. #Wimbledon pic.twitter.com/5rOlsJuFxn

However, the Canadian star stated that she is putting both hours and effort into getting well. Bouchard also added that she has never missed a day of the recovery routine.

Furthermore, the 2014 Wimbledon finalist has already confirmed her return date to tennis. Signing the contract with Orange County Breakers, Bouchard will play at the World TeamTennis event in late November this year.

Given she is back on the treadmill, the recovery will only move upwards from here on. But even so, the real challenge would be how her body adapts to the competitive match physicality. Because it is one thing to train, and the other is the nerves and pressure of a live match.

Additionally, Bouchard is presently ranked outside the Top 100 and hasn’t been in her best days in half a decade. But considering her potential, she would not need much time to find herself in the high rankings again.

Bouchard’s 2021 season so far

At the Australian Open 2021, the Canadian failed to qualify for the main event for the second consecutive year. Next, she went to Lyon and lost in the first round, but Bouchard reached the finals there in doubles with Olga Danilovic.

Remarkably, Bouchard reached her first singles final of the 2021 season at Abierto de Guadalajara, Mexico. However, she dropped her level extensively, losing the title to Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-2, 7-5.

Immediately afterwards, she succumbed in the first round at Monterry, marking her last match until now. Hopefully, she will recover quickly, and fans will see her competing on the court soon.

Do you think Bouchard will make her come back in 2021?
