After several months in social Siberia I feel the urge to glam up a little, says Jane Moore

WHEN it comes to BBQs, men can throw on a Hawaiian shirt and shorts, but after several months in social Siberia I feel the urge to glam up a little.

So what better than this ‘smart casual’ (a dress code that always confuses me) jumpsuit that’s bang on trend and, thanks to the jacquard fabric, transports me back to my 1970s glory years.

The green band defines the waist in this comfy number

The first time I wore a jumpsuit was in 1976, shortly after ABBA’s Arrival album cover showed them wearing white all-in-ones.

Suddenly, the shops were full of them and my Chelsea Girl version was my pride and joy until I spilt Ribena down the leg and ruined it.

For years afterwards, I always thought that jumpsuits were solely for the young, but now they’re back in and the huge range of styles means there’s something to suit every age, shape and colour preference.

This particular one is supercool and comfy – my favourite combo – and the green band creates a waistline that’s handily loose if you fancy an extra burger or two at your friend’s barbie.

It would also be handy for nights out on holiday too – particularly as it doesn’t crease.

It’s made from washable, 100 per cent polyester and, worn with a nude, multiway bra, the top part is substantial enough to suit most chest sizes.

But if backless isn’t your thing, then a loose cotton shirt, in plain green or white and knotted at the front, would give the required back coverage whilst still showing off the jumpsuit itself.

As for footwear, when you’re walking on grass, stilettos are out. So it should be a flat sandal or wedges.

This gold pair are glamorous but practical. They would go with pretty much every outfit and give it a sartorial lift.

Seventies style with a modern twist? Yeah baby.
