Stay or Go: Spurs Lock Door on Harry Kane as Manchester City Tighten Grip

Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane is one of the best strikers in the world. Consistently putting up big numbers in the league, he is yet to lead Spurs to any trophies. While that might not be his fault, a player of his calibre needs to play on the biggest stage of them all.

Hence, it’s no surprise that perennial champions Manchester City have reportedly submitted a grand bid of 160 million pounds for the Englishman. However, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is a shrewd businessman, and he understands that selling Kane will be one of his biggest mistakes.

The striker has been pivotal in making sure that the club still competes for the premier league, and even after scoring the most goals and having the most assists last season, he could only haul the North London club up to seventh place last season. Nevertheless, it is still one better than their north London rivals Arsenal.

In a recent statement by a spokesperson for Spurs, Daniel Levy insists his stance has not changed, and he will not sell Harry Kane this summer. It will be foolhardy to do so. Spurs are lucky that they found Harry Kane after the shambolic transfer window they had after selling Gareth Bale.

The move earned them 85 million pounds (a world record fee for the time), and they signed seven players with the money. Almost all of them were instant failures and left the club. Christian Eriksen was the only signing that worked out for them in the long run.

However, Kane took over the mantle and became the club’s biggest star for years.

The 27-year-old forward has scored 166 goals in 245 appearances in the Premier League and has won the golden boot three times. He also won the playmaker award after having 14 assists last season and was one of the best players in the league along with Portuguese duo Bruno Fernandes and Ruben Dias.

He is very close to beating the league record for the highest amount of goals, and he will surely beat Alan Shearer’s record if he continues at this rate. Shearer scored 260 goals during his time in England, and if Kane does move to City, the record will not stand for very long.
