Tokyo 2020 Olympics: Fred Sirieix can’t contain pride as daughter Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix joins Team GB

Fred Sirieix cheered on daughter Andrea as the Olympics kicked off

Fred Sirieix proved to be the most proud dad as he shared his support for Olympian daughter Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix, as this year’s Olympics kicked off.

The opening ceremony took place in Tokyo yesterday, with Susan Boyle making a very surprise appearance during the proceedings.

Taking to Twitter, the First Dates host penned a supportive message for his teenage daughter, who qualified for the diving team, alongside 11 others.

Alongside two snaps of the 16-year-old athlete, ’Good luck mon we are all so proud of you.

‘Have fun x #olympics #tokyo2020 #diving #platform #10m #teamGB #goAndrea.’

Andrea confirmed her spot on Team GB last month, celebrating the news on Instagram.

Beside a throwback snap as she posed with a trophy by the pool, the diver cheered: ‘ITS OFFICIAL: I’m going to be representing Team GB at the Tokyo Olympics in the summer!!

‘I can’t find the words to describe exactly how I’m feeling… It’s every athletes dream to compete at the Olympics and I can’t believe that mine is finally coming true

‘Moments like this make me truly grateful for God, my family, my coach Lin Chen and everyone that has supported me so far in my journey. Baby Andrea would be so proud.

‘Super excited to be repping the red, white and blue alongside such an incredibly strong team. Tokyo, HERE WE COME!!!!’

Fred shares Andrea with his ex-partner, and previously opened up about his pride that she is heading to Tokyo to compete for Team GB – and how different it will be watching her compete from home.

‘I am ecstatic she got selected for the Olympic squad, and I’m very, very, very proud,’ he told the i. ‘She is living her dream, it’s what she wanted to do from the moment she started diving. I can’t tell you how focused and determined she’s been, and the sacrifices she’s made.

‘When she started diving it quickly became apparent she was good, but it’s one thing being good, and another to go all the way.’

‘This year is the first year I can’t travel and I have to say that watching her on TV during the Diving World Cup in Tokyo in May this year was the most nerve-wracking feeling I’ve ever had watching her dive,’ he added.

‘Normally because you’re there you feel more a part of it, but watching on TV you feel completely powerless as a parent, it’s very hard.  When you watch football or a 100 metre race, you can be detached enough to enjoy it,  but watching my daughter in a competition like the Olympics will be like an outer-body experience. I won’t know whether to sit down, stand up or turn around.’

We’re sure she’ll smash it.
