Who Are the Team USA Basketball Coaches for the Tokyo Olympics 2020

The year 2021 is getting brightened by the much anticipated Tokyo Olympics held in Japan. US Men’s National Basketball Team is attracting the evident hype with a star-studded roster that was announced lately. They are heading towards their fourth consecutive gold medal this year with high expectations from All-star NBA players.

The Dream Team coaching lineup is being led by San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich. Alongside, the assistant coaches include Steve Kerr, Lloyd Pierce, and Jay Wright.

Other than the talented bunch of players attracting the spotlight, the US coaches are also making headlines in these Tokyo Games. Starting with Gregg Popovich, one of the greatest basketball coaches of all time, the list is brimming with experience.

Popovich is a 5-time NBA champion as the Spurs coach since 1996. He has previously been an assistant coach for the national team in the 2002 and 2003 FIBA Americas Championship. And the last time he made it to the Olympics was in 2004 under head coach Larry Brown. That year, the US team won a bronze medal in Athens.

Assisting Popovich from the front, Warriors’ Steve Kerr (an eight-time champion) is making an Olympics debut as a coach in Tokyo. However, his two colleagues Lloyd Pierce and Jay Wright have previous experience on a national level.

Lloyd Pierce, who served as the Hawks head coach (2018-21), was recently appointed as the assistant coach for Indiana Pacers. Previously he has assisted Popovich in coaching the US team at the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China. The duo will be making an appearance yet again for the Tokyo Games 2020.

Adding to the bigwigs, Jay Wright is getting inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame 2021. He is a 2-time NCAA Champion while coaching for the Villanova University men’s basketball team. Alongside Kerr, Jay Wright will also be debuting this year in the Olympics.

The US coaching staff is looking power-packed with a 3-time NBA Coach of the Year Awardee heading the bunch. He is the longest-serving active coach in the NBA and all major sports leagues of the States.

Well, the roster is graced by some tremendous NBA stars as well. With Kevin Durant selected as the captain, others include Damian Lillard, Jayson Tatum, Devin Booker, Draymond Green, Khris Middleton, and many more.

Fans are on the run to witness their favorite players together on one end of the court. The Tokyo Olympic Games have commenced on 23rd July 2021 in full swing!
