Apex Legends: Developer Provides Update on Possible Valkyrie Nerfs in the Future

For the past few days, Apex Legends has received a lot of hype following the announcement of its next season. The popular Battle Royale title will head into its tenth season in a couple of weeks with some massive changes. The game’s next season titled Emergence will introduce a new Legend in Seers who has nano-tracking abilities.

However, people are still playing Season 9 which also added new stuff for fans to enjoy. With the addition of the Arenas mode, fans have really enjoyed the experience of playing the game. Along with that, the developers also added a new Legend in Valkyrie which has received mixed reactions. Recently, some fans stated that the character was quite overpowered. But the developers replied negatively, and they explained why it won’t receive any nerfs soon.

Apex Legends players worry about Valkyrie being overpowered

Recently, the community discussed the abilities of the Season 9 Legend in Valkyrie in a Reddit post on r/ValkyrieMains. Many believed that the character is doing alright in the game currently. Some players have even stated that they enjoy playing with her, especially after the character received mixed reactions following her launch in early May.

However, some players have also mentioned she feels a bit overpowering. Many of them have revealed that she plays like an average Legend in ranked play. But, they have also noted that she is extremely powerful in public matches because of her ability to escape from messy situations. With a character like that, public matches with high skill gaps definitely give an advantage to players who can use Valkyrie properly.

Respawn developer explains why Valkyrie won’t receive nerfs

During this Valkyrie discussion, Respawn Lead Game Designer Daniel Klein chimed in with a response. The Apex Legends developer explained why fans shouldn’t expect a nerf for the Season 9 Legend. He said that her stats makes her a middle of the pack character. However, a lot of players pick her as she’s a new character, and she also allows them to escape during losing battles. So fans should expect to see that drop rate to decrease soon following the release of Seers in Season 10.

Even then with this explanation, fans continued the discussion and Klein later posted a response about the numbers backing it up. He mentioned that Valkyrie had the same relative win rate across all skill brackets. He countered the points about her being overpowered in public matches by saying that players don’t play seriously in these modes, which makes her escaping ability quite important. However, these players balance that ability out by showcasing themselves flying at the wrong time.

It’s true that Valkyrie has some amazing abilities that can be quite useful in a lot of games. However, she has her downsides as well, and it seems like the developers at Respawn don’t have any major reasons to think about tweaking her abilities or stats, and it seems like most community members would agree to that stance as well.
