Doctor Who continues to add to its stellar cast with Game Of Thrones star Jacob Anderson coming on board for series 13.

The actor, best known for playing Grey Worm on the HBO series, has been cast as the mysterious Vinder, a recurring character who will pop up throughout the series.

Vinder will join forces with the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) Yaz (Mandip Gill) and Dan (John Bishop) as the Time Lord faces her biggest ever adventure battling the forces of evil across time and space.

The BBC has treated fans to two new images, including one of Vinder in all his glory. With his cool dreads, leather jacket and pistol he certainly looks to be the swashbuckling type perfectly capable of escaping trouble – or maybe even creating it himself…

There’s also another look at the Doctor with her fam, as she stands side by side with Yaz and Dan.

Details about Vinder are being kept under wraps but according to Jacob he is ‘adventurous and dynamic’.

On landing the role, the actor said he was thrilled to be joining the show he was such a big fan of growing up.

‘The Doctor has been a part of my life forever, from watching and rewatching the serials on VHS as a kid and being terrified, to unexpectedly finding my eyes watering when the Tenth Doctor said “I don’t want to go”, I always wanted to live in the Whoniverse,’ Jacob shared.

‘Not only has a lifelong dream of mine now been fulfilled, but to be playing a character as fun, adventurous and dynamic as Vinder is the cherry on top. This is very cool.’

As well as Game of Thrones Jacob has also had roles in Episodes, Skins and Broadchurch, and treaded the boards in King Lear at the Young Vic and War Horse at the National Theatre.

Jacob’s casting was announced today as part of the Doctor Who panel at San Diego Comic Con where stars Jodie, Mandip and John teased what is in store for the Doctor and her fam.

Series 13 is the third outing for Jodie’s Doctor, the first woman ever the play the role.

Filming on the new episodes resumed at the end of 2020 after the pandemic brought things to a halt.

Doctor Who is set to return later this year.
