Hungarian Grand Prix: Steiner Reveals Update to Mick Schumacher’s Haas F1 Car

Mick Schumacher is having quite the debut season in Formula One. Although the German constantly scraps at the back of the field, he consistently outperformed his teammate Nikita Mazepin across 10 races so far. And he did all that despite a “crooked” seat in his cockpit since the start of the season!

Ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Haas Team Principal Guenther Steiner revealed the team will solve this issue in the car.

Guenther Steiner reveals a new seat will be ready for Mick Schumacher in Hungary

During the season, Schumacher raced with his seat in a crooked position. This is often the case in Schumacher‘s race car owing to his body structure. Although his 5″7 height fits in the average of drivers on the current grid, his lean frame means an adjustment is needed for his cockpit.

Despite this being a common feature of the 22-year-old’s junior career, Haas only learned about the issue from Mick’s mother, Corrina.

However, Steiner admitted Haas will rectify the issue ahead of the next race in Hungary. While admitting he shared a light moment with Schumacher on the issue after Silverstone, he believes the new addition will be ready in time.

He said, “I actually spoke with Mick when we were in the factory on Tuesday, and we had a little laugh about it, because it came out so big, this crooked seat [story].

“For sure it will be ready for Hungary. If we make it on Monday, it will be ready for Hungary. But if it is crooked or not, I don’t know yet. The plan is to have a straight seat in Hungary.”

Schumacher details what Haas need to do to make this happen

For the seat to be straight, the 2020 F2 champion admitted the seat needs to be offset from its central position. He believes this could make up for his body shape and natural position in the car.

He said, “The seat is symmetrical, I’m not – and it took me only, well, long enough to find that out. But again, I think that fact is what we have to do is now we’ll have to do a crooked seat, so that I am central in the car.”

While Haas work on his car, Schumacher turns his attention to the Hungaroring. Can the German finish ahead of Mazepin once again next weekend? Only time will tell.
