Max Verstappen Suggests Renaming His Cats as Lewis Hamilton & Toto Wolff at Sim Event

Max Verstappen often expresses his emotions freely. Whether it’s a press conference or a post-race interview, the Dutchman rarely holds back when it comes to being direct. This trait of his personality seeps into his comedy as well, which he showed during a simulator race yesterday.

During the race, Verstappen joked about naming his two cats after his adversaries at Mercedes.

The Dutchman is in a position he’s never been in before during his seven-year long F1 career. For the first time, Verstappen leads the F1 driver’s championship, although the margin is very narrow. Despite winning five out of 10 races this season, he leads the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton by just eight points.

At the British Grand Prix, Verstappen collided with the barriers after coming into contact with Hamilton. The impact of the crash sent him to a local hospital for precautionary checks, with the Briton winning the race. After returning from hospital, Verstappen made his feelings clear with a post on social media.

On his road to recovery, the Dutchman took part in a simulator racing event. Titled the ’24 Hours of Spa’, Verstappen raced alongside Gianni Vechio and Jeff Giassi of Team Redline.

During the race, the three drivers spoke about Max’s cats named Jimmy and Sassy. The conversation produced moments of comedy after Verstappen revealed they were running around his simulator.

While they discussed alternate cat names, the 23-year-old admitted they could be named after Hamilton and Mercedes CEO, Toto Wolff. “We’ll call them Lewis and Toto!” joked Verstappen. This comment made all three drivers chuckle during the race, while receiving comments from viewers on the platform.

Verstappen looks to break Hamilton’s Hungarian Grand Prix winning streak

With eight victories, Hamilton holds the record for the most victories at the Hungaroring. In addition, he also won the last three races at this track, which makes him a strong contender to take top honours on August 1. However, Verstappen will be no pushover especially after the events at Silverstone.

After seeing his gap in the driver’s championship reduced to just eight points, the Dutchman will look to bounce back in Hungary. With Red Bull still a threat to Mercedes‘ title defence, can Verstappen stop Hamilton’s dominance at the Hungaroring? Only time will tell.
