Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson denies WWE comeback plans despite Survivor Series return reports
Hmm… The Rock says it’s not going ahead… (Photo: WWE)
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has commented on rumours he’s returning to WWE later this year.
For months now there have been reports suggesting the People’s Champ, who became a huge name in the world of wrestling before making the jump to Hollywood, will be back before the end of 2021 to start a storyline with Roman Reigns.
However, when asked by Entertainment Tonight about the possibility, he said: ‘There’s nothing.’
And when his Jungle Cruise co-star Emily Blunt jokingly suggested they were both stepping into the squared circle, he quipped: ‘Yeah, it’s gonna be a tag team.’
Of course, it might not be that simple.
WWE and the wrestling industry as a whole is built on surprises, so this could be nothing more than The Rock trying to throw everyone off the scent.
Reports have suggested Dwayne is primed to make an appearance at Survivor Series in November, which would be the 25th anniversary of his WWE debut.
The idea then would be to build to a blockbuster WrestleMania 38 match in Dallas, Texas between The Rock and his cousin Roman Reigns, who has been on a roll since SummerSlam last year and seems set to face John Cena at next month’s event.
Considering the actor’s recent comments, it’s anyone’s guess as to how things unfold, but the Tribal Chief’s special counsel Paul Heyman previously weighed in on the potential bout.
He exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘I look at it from a completely different perspective than you do. I don’t look at it as, “Roman Reigns wants to face Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson at WrestleMania”.

‘I look at it as… Roman Reigns is considering accommodating Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s desire to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.
‘I’d like to add that there are dozens of top tier, A-list performers and athletes and superstars who want to get into the ring with Roman Reigns a WrestleMania – and why shouldn’t they? It is the biggest match of the year on the grandest stage of them all.’
Heyman even stated it’s Roman Reigns doing The Rock a favour by entertaining the possibility of a match with such mainstream appeal.
He added: ‘I applaud Dwayne The Rock Johnson for keeping his name out there in the media by expressing a desire to step into the ring with the number one box office attraction in sports, entertainment or sports entertainment, Roman Reigns.’
