“He’s a Good and Honest Man”- Fellow Olympian Hails Novak Djokovic After Meeting him at 2020 Tokyo Olympics

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics have been an eventful tournament so far. Post its exuberant grand opening, the players donned their respective courts. With some of the best athletes in the tournament, the draws have garnered world attention and delivered more than what they promised. However, one man has been stealing the headlines from the event of the year, more off-court than on it. Ever since his arrival in Japan, Novak Djokovic has been at the heart of the action.

Fans and athletes making their way in and around the Olympic Village have been lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the Serbian maestro. While some take this opportunity to get pictured with him, some present the 20-time Grand Slam champion with tokens of their respect and admiration for him.

Novak, who appreciates the unifying love of his fans, often reciprocates their love with an act of kindness himself. His display of humility is often up-held by fans who cannot process their dream come true moment. Novak’s fellow Olympian, Amel Tuka, was one of the most recent stars to praise the Serb’s humble character.

The Bosnian sprinter recently took to his social media to share his moment of magic with the Serbian ‘G.O.A.T’, Novak Djokovic. The former Olympic medalist shared a picture of him and Novak with a beautiful anecdote as his caption.

He wrote, “I’m going to the Olympic Village and I’m carrying food to my colleagues from the national team when I hear someone say: So where were you?! I get who it will be, and when I turn around there’s Novak Djokovic.”

“With every gesture and sentence, he showed his modesty and humanity. Nole is a man, athlete, humanitarian. He is our friend, a good and honest man. We will see each other again in Visoko, Sarajevo or Zenica.

“He wished all our competitors luck, and I took the opportunity to congratulate him once again on winning Wimbledon and to tell him that we are all cheering for him at the Olympic tournament as well,” wrote the Bosnian, reliving his encounter with the tennis legend.

Novak Djokovic goes for gold

Novak’s character has been remarkable this season, both on and off the court. Living up to his World No. 1 rank, the Serb began his 2020 Tokyo Olympics journey on the back of three back-to-back title-winning campaigns.

His most recent feat was his 2021 Wimbledon championship win – his 20th Grand Slam title. Hence, fans believe the 34-year-old is the favorite for gold this year.

However, the road to gold is far from easy. His history with the Olympic tournament has not been the most memorable one; with just one bronze medal so far, Novak has been subjected to some early exits and shock defeats in his previous appearances.

Regardless, his impressionable confidence will give him the extra boost he needs. Currently, the ‘G.O.A.T’ is in the form of his life as he takes yet another step forward in his quest for a Career Golden Grand slam.
