Michelle Heaton was given a grave warning by doctors that she would die in the grips of her alcohol and cocaine addiction.

The Liberty X singer, 42, checked into rehab in April this year to beat her problems and has now spoken about how bad things were.

During a joint interview with OK! magazine, the pop star’s husband Hugh Hanley explained her liver was so badly affected by her drinking that doctors told her last year things could become fatal.

Hugh said: ‘She was told in September 2020, with her liver the way it was, she was going to die if she did nothing about it.’

Michelle received treatment at the Priory earlier this year but her drinking was so bad in the days before she went in that she had a seizure at home.

Huge explained: ‘Four days before going to the Priory she also had a very bad fit in bed at 2am. She wouldn’t stop shaking and her mouth was drooling.

‘That was scary and it really spooked her. Her skin was also changing colour and she hadn’t eaten for days. Things had got so bad there was no way out.’

Michelle added that her veins were visible and her body was ‘translucent’, and she’d lost a huge amount of weight but her stomach was swollen due to her damaged liver.

Musician Michelle previously spoke about the affect her drinking had on her hair, sharing before and after pictures of herself on social media.

One picture showed her with healthy curls and the other showed her hair before it was treated.

She wrote on Instagram earlier this month: ‘It’s funny (not really funny) but still funny, how stress … hormones … alcohol … drugs … diet … fitness all effects the hair!

‘See my video at the end. This was filmed only this morning, That’s the harsh reality of what my hair became. And so this is me now.

‘@inanchlondon @inanch_justme @hairbyhasanuzun using @goldclasshair has well and truly got rid of any last bits of Michelle in addition! Good riddens! (sic).’

Michelle, who is mother to Faith, nine, and seven-year-old AJ, credits her friends and family for pushing her in the right direction to get help after they staged an intervention.

The star has previously spoken out about how Katie Price recommended she check into the Priory after visiting the facility herself in 2018 for trauma treatment.

She previously told The Sun: ‘I texted Katie while I was in The Priory, “You saved my life”. Because The Priory did save my life.

‘What I was doing was a suicide mission. I never actually thought, “I want to kill myself”, but ultimately I was killing myself. I was crying out for help when I couldn’t actually ask for help. But when you’re an addict, it feels like there’s no way out.’
