Love Island 2021 Casa Amor: The unbreakable couples broken by the most savage twist

We never saw some of these splits coming (Picture: ITV)

The new series of Love Island is getting a major boost with Casa Amor about to be unleashed for the first time since 2020 .

Fans have been waiting patiently since the new episodes began for the second villa arrivals to mix things up.

Why has it taken so long to make an appearance this year? Well, it’s because the villa was reportedly still being built until very recently.

It was confirmed during Friday night’s episode that Casa Amor would be returning this week, and it’s already looking like it’ll be worth the wait.

There are six new bombshells waiting for their time to join the series, and the majority of them have their eyes on someone already coupled up – with Kaz Kamwi is in demand.

It’s become a staple of Love Island ever since Casa Amor was introduced in 2017 during the third series, promising drama at every turn.

The second villa has provided fans with plenty of dramatic moments over the years, with couples breaking up in shocking circumstances.

From Ofcom complaint-inducing moments to meme-worthy classics, these are the unbreakable couples broken by Casa Amor over the years.

Michael Griffiths and Amber Gill

Checking social media during Love Island can be more entertaining than watching the programme itself sometimes, and one classic meme-worthy moment came to take over Twitter and Instagram after one memorable moment back in 2019.

Michael shocked the nation and his fellow islanders alike after breaking things off with Amber, after seeming to form a real connection. Claiming that she made him feel more like the ‘Michael he knew before entering the villa’, he opted to recouple with Joanna Chimonides instead.

The horrified reactions from the likes of Maura Higgins and Anna Vakili were priceless. In the end, though, Amber needn’t have worried so much, as she ended up winning the show as a couple with Greg O’Shea. Swings and roundabouts, we guess.

Amy Hart and Curtis Pritchard

Things were looking rosy for Amy and Curtis during their stay in the villa back in 2019, before they split in one of the most-quoted moments in the programme’s history.

Despite seeming to develop a real affinity for one another on the show, Curtis threw a spanner in the works after meeting Jourdan Riane in Casa Amor. Little did he know, though, that Amy had been planning to tell Curtis that she loved him upon his return.

Like a horror film, viewers watched between their fingers as Curtis dropped the bombshell, leading Amy to tell him: ‘I was coming here to tell you that I loved you.’

We don’t think there’s been a more uncomfortable moment since – well, apart from Curtis’ stand-up and then his Hollyoaks cameo.

Callum Jones and Shaughna Phillips

The first ever Winter Love Island brought with it some of the most scandalous Casa Amor moments, including the time Callum pied Shaughna only to receive one of the best comeback lines ever.

Shaughna became an overnight icon on the programme after being dumped by Callum, who’d had his priorities changed by spending time with Molly Smith in Casa Amor. But rather than doing the understandable thing and bursting into tears after hearing the news, Shaughna hit back immediately with an unforgettable response.

‘I’m happy for Callum. I should have never trusted a scaffolder anyway. Congrats hun,’ she said, instantly becoming the real winner of the 2020 series in our eyes.

Josh Denzel and Georgia Steel

Georgia might have been loyal all the way, but her partner Josh Denzel certainly wasn’t.

Back in 2018, Georgia was ready to put all her eggs in one basket with Josh before he found himself falling for Kaz Crossley, and viewers could see the heartbreak coming a mile off after Josh had his head turned.

To the dismay of audiences everywhere, Georgia was left heartbroken upon his return from Casa Amor, when he decided to dump her and move on with his new flame. Viewers jumped on social media to voice their support for Georgia during the excruciating moment, with the Yorkshire local held it together remarkably well before emotions got the better of her later in the episode.

Wes Nelson and Megan Barton-Hanson

Wes and Megan’s relationship was dramatic from the very start. They got together in pretty chaotic circumstances, after Wes and Laura had hit it off earlier in the series. They got very close, very quickly during their stay in the villa, but they hadn’t counted one thing – Megan Barton-Hanson arriving and making it her number one priority to make Wes her man.

She worked her magic on Wes, asking him to kiss him, and it looked like they were all set to couple up together, heading off into the distance to win the show and pocket the £50,000.

However,  in a further killer twist than no-one saw coming – least of all Wes – she decided to couple up with Alex Miller instead. Wes came back to the villa alone, and it looked like their time had come and gone. Luckily for him, though, he ended up getting together and continuing their relationship outside the villa.

Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham

Ok, so it didn’t break them up, but we couldn’t fail to include this moment from Love Island’s 2018 heyday.

It’s one of the most distressing moments viewers have been subjected to on-camera, and it’s no surprise that 2,525 people complained to Ofcom.

This uncharacteristically cruel moment came when Dani was shown misleading footage of Jack reacting to his ex-girlfriend Ellie walking through the doors of Casa Amor, causing viewers to accuse the show of emotionally manipulating her.

Thankfully Dani enjoyed an emotional reunion with Jack not long later and ended up winning the whole thing, walking away with £50,000.

Kem Cetinay and Amber Davis

Love Island royalty Kem and Amber nearly came to a bitter end on the programme after Kem returned from Casa Amor with Chyna Ellis.

Spending two days apart from Amber was enough to have his resolve tested, and Kem ended up sharing a kiss with bombshell Chyna Ellis.

After Kem’s fling with Chyna was revealed after a scandalous postcard was sent to the main villa, Amber was dismayed to discover the news.

However, there was a happy ending to this one too, as Kem and Amber eventually got back together and went on to be named winners of the series.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
