Petra Kvitova gets bageled in the finals set

The World No.13 from Czech Republic lost the final set in utter disgraceful fashion. Alison completed a bagel over her opponent and advanced into the third round. Petra was just not in her usual form, as she made 37 unforced errors during the match and 19 of them came in the third set.

The Belgian was in total command after she missed out on the first set, however comfortably winning the second set. Alison was better at receiving the service from the Czech’s end, which also proves her break point conversion. She converted seven of the 14 break point opportunities she had.

Tale of Upsets at the Olympics

The four-time Grand Slam winner continues the list of early exits by the big players. Yesterday, World No.1 Ashleigh Barty lost in the first round of the tournament and raised eyebrows. Today, the two time Wimbledon champion and two time US Open winner added herself to the list.

Petra was one of the favorites to go a long way in the tournament. However, her string of bad form started earlier in June. She lost her first-round match against Sloane Stephens at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.

However, Petra faced humiliation today after losing 6-0 in the third set. A calm and composed Alison Van Uytvanck overcame the scare and triumphed over Petra.
