Seidl Explains Why McLaren F1 Demanded Postponement of New Pit Stop Regulations

During the Austrian GP weekend, FIA introduced new pit stop technical directives in order to force the teams to slow down their pit stops.

The new rules, which have come into place to ensure maximum safety of the crew, drivers, and others in the pit lane, order a minimum 0.15-second wait between the wheels being approved as tight and the jackman dropping the car.

Initially, they were supposed to come into force at the Hungarian GP. However, they have now been postponed to the Belgian GP, which is after the summer break. And McLaren team principal, Andreas Seidl, welcomed the delay of new pit stop regulations.

What did Mclaren team principal, Andreas Seidl say?

As quoted by RacingNews365, McLaren’s team principal supported the delay of new pit stop regulations and said: “It was a good, constructive discussion between teams and the FIA.”

“In the end, due to the special situation that we are in also with Covid-19, it is not so easy to go back to the factories at the moment and train together with the crew all the changes that were in the TD initially.”

“I think it made sense, in the end, to delay it and use the longer break and give every team more time to be prepared for the change,” added Andreas Seidl.

Seidl is’ very happy’ with Daniel Ricciardo’s progress

After an arduous start to the season, it seems that McLaren’s new signee this year, Daniel Ricciardo, has achieved a turnaround; he secured a P5 at the British GP, just behind him teammate, Lando Norris.

And as quoted by the Formula 1 website, McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl, is “very happy” with how far Ricciardo has come.

” I’m very happy with the progress Daniel made, a really good step forward in qualifying on Friday, and then managed to pull off some good races which is great to see. Looking forward now to Hungary,” said Seidl.

“As Daniel said also after the race, there’s still things obviously to improve to match Lando, but the important thing is he’s making steps, feeling more comfortable in the car in both quali and the race and it was a big step forward compared to previous races which was good.”
