Why Does Olympics Legend Usain Bolt Continue To Avoid Snacks After Retirement?

Usain Bolt has been retired for four years now and walked away from a career of domination on the tracks as one of the greatest ever to do it. The Jamaican hauled an impressive tally of eight Olympic gold medals owing to his success in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay events across three different editions of the Games.

While most athletes let go of themselves after retiring, especially track ones, Bolt has decided to keep himself in shape and strictly follows this path. The former Olympian ran an 800m race as part of promotion earlier this month and was absolutely exhausted by the end, despite not hitting maximum speed.

Deciding that it was time to return to what his form was 4 years ago, Bolt has started following a strict diet. In it, he makes sure to resist the urge of snacking, no matter how tempting.

“I try to avoid them. Once I start, I can’t stop. It’ll start at one thing, then add up to, like, four or five,” Bolt said, speaking to GQ. “Like, get barbecue Lay’s in front of me, and it’s over. But I know how to reel it in. I’m in a place where I know how good it feels to be in good shape, and that’s why I put an old photo of me on the front of my [bike] screen because that’s what I need to work toward. That level of fitness.”

Usain Bolt aims to get fit in time for his birthday

Usain Bolt looks up to himself and what his peak shape was in his time as a track athlete. He has refused to let it all go and actually aims to get back to shape by August 21 this year, right in time for his birthday.

Although he is not overdoing the track workouts, he aims to become fit for his own good, rather than for being a track star. “I’m at a point in my life where I just want to be in shape,” Bolt admits. “Do some core and strength work. Get on my bike from time to time. I do a mixture of everything, which is what we all need to be strong.”

Usain Bolt may just re-emerge as a fitness icon rather than the ‘usainly’ superior sprinter he has been known as most of the time. The path to his peak self is hard but it’s nothing the Jamaican has not done before.
