Aaron Rodgers Returning Opens the Door for Packers Reopening Contract Talks With Davante Adams

It’s happening! Aaron Rodgers is returning to play for the Green Bay Packers. While there are certain caveats to his return, it now looks likely that the QB will suit up for the franchise for the upcoming season.

This is good news for Packers fans who have had a nightmarish offseason. Starting from all the talk surrounding Aaron Rodgers’ future, the fans also had to deal with the news of contract negotiation talks falling through with star wideout Davante Adams.

Adams, a 2020 first-team All-Pro, has been Rodgers’ go-to aerial weapon over the past few seasons. Getting better with each passing year, the wide receiver is now regarded as one of the best in this business.

But in 2021, Davante Adams enters the final year of his current contract. And while the Green Bay Packers front office initially planned to tie the wideout to a new deal by preseason itself, negotiation talks quickly fell through.

But according to a new report, following Rodgers’ recent decision, Davante Adams might be tempted to stay.

One of the clauses of Aaron Rodgers‘ return will see the quarterback adjust his current contract to offer the franchise some much-needed cap space to operate.

This in turn could play a major role in the franchise’s pursuit of Davante Adams. NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the wide receiver is once again open to hearing what the Packers have to offer.

“With Aaron Rodgers expected to return to Green Bay while giving the Packers more cap room, Davante Adams now is willing to listen to any contract discussions the team would like to have, per sources. Adams open to a deal,” Schefter tweeted.

Rodgers also committing to the Packers for at least another year should allay the fears of Adams for now. The two linked up for 18 touchdowns last season which saw both land on the All-Pro team.

The wide receiver currently earns $14.5 million a year, which is way lower than what a player of his caliber should be earning. And Adams is well aware of that.

Arizona Cardinals’ DeAndre Hopkins currently earns the most among NFL wide receivers bagging $27.25 million per year. One can expect Davante Adams to demand the same if not more if he is to stay at Green Bay.
