Bird lover’s video of blue tits in nesting box goes viral with 41 million hits

A BIRD lover’s videos of blue tits inside a nesting box have racked up 41 million views in a month.

John Chadwick, 43, started streaming footage of the birds with their chicks for his family.

But within weeks of uploading the videos to YouTube, he had millions of viewers around the world.

John said: “It’s gone a little bit bonkers. I only wanted to show my family and friends.

“I had no idea the films would attract such interest.”

The sound engineer put the bird box up during lockdown on a willow tree at his home in Loughborough, Leicestershire, and the adult birds moved in within hours.

His live films attracted 2,000 subscribers but then John made a compilation video of the birds going into the nest, the eggs hatching and the chicks fledging.

He said: “In the first week, I had 10 million views and now more than 41 million.

“It’s just bizarre.”

The world-famous blue tits have now left the nest box.
