‘Concern for welfare of child’ shuts high street as emergency services swarm high end department store in Essex
COPS and paramedics swarmed a high-end department store and shut a bustling high street amid ‘concerns for the welfare of a child’.
The major incident unfolded in the Fenwick store in Colchester, Essex, with an air ambulance and police among the blue light workers to rush to the scene.

Three roads were closed during the shocking incident.
All have since reopened.
Earlier today, a spokesman for Essex Police said: “We are currently on the scene of an incident in High Street, Colchester.
“We were called to Fenwick department store by colleagues in the ambulance service shortly after 11.30am this morning with reports of concerns for the welfare of a child.
“We are assisting colleagues in the ambulance service and a number of roads have been closed around the area, including High Street, North Hill and North Station Road.
“We will provide an update when we can.”
Currently, there is no further information on the incident.
However, Fenwick has closed. Staff put a sign on the door which says its shut due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
And a statement on the company’s Facebook page reads: “We have closed our Colchester store due to an incident this morning.
“We will update in due course.”
At least four marked police cars were pictured outside the store earlier today.
