Joe Wicks appeared to confuse the word ‘motivation’ for having just two syllables, sending the internet into a frenzy, but hold your judgement!

Fans of The Office will know the body coach was simply quoting The Office’s Gareth Kenan (played by Mackenzie Crook).

In a video shared on his Instagram Story, a topless Joe tried his best at encouraging his followers to get active.

‘One word, two syllables, motivation,’ he said deadpan, while tapping out four beats on his arm.

Of course, there aren’t two syllables in motivation, but four. And of course, Joe knows this.

The scene he was referring to is well-known and sees Gareth telling Martin Freeman’s Tim Canterbury: ‘One word, two syllables, demarcation.’

Fans of the sitcom were quick to point this out after some sincerely believed Joe was blissfully unaware of his mistake.

‘He knows it’s more, he’s just using a line from The Office,’ one joked.

Another added: ‘Annoyed with people who think Joe Wicks is an idiot after this. Shame on you who don’t get the reference.’

‘Can’t get over people not getting a The Office reference,’ a third reiterated.

Earlier this month it was announced that Joe has teamed up with documentary don Louis Theroux for a personal mental health programme.

Joe Wicks: Mental Health, My Family and Me will see the fitness guru reflect on the ‘poignant personal story’ of his mother and father, with Louis serving as executive producer.

Joe explained: ‘I’ve spent a lot of time helping people improve their physical health but as a child that grew up in a home with parents that struggled with their mental health, I know that this is just as important, especially given what’s happened over the last year.

‘I’m passionate about exploring it and I want to use my own experience to connect and help families today who are in similar situations to the one I was in.

‘I also want to share the message that exercise can be a really powerful tool in helping to boost our mental health.’

In the documentary, the PE With Joe coach will also explore how children are affected by their parents’ mental health struggles, as well as how they can be supported.

Joe was made an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours last year after hosting online PE classes for children throughout lockdown.
