Lando Norris ‘Tinkered a Lot With Myself’ to Beat Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren F1

Lando Norris is arguably having one of his best F1 seasons this year. With 113 points to his name, Norris holds third place in the driver’s championship. In fact, only Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have more points than the Briton this season.

In addition, the 22-year-old is the only driver to score points in all 10 races so far. Although he has a teammate with race-winning experience in Daniel Ricciardo, Norris has outperformed the Australian on more than one occasion so far.

Ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Norris revealed the changes he went through to enjoy his current form.

Lando Norris admits he takes F1 more seriously than before

Since his debut in 2019, Norris has improved leaps and bounds over the years. Along with finishing in the points in every race this season, he achieved three podium finishes under the most difficult conditions.

Norris admitted erratic moments filled his initial years in F1. He said, “In my first Formula 1 years I was too erratic. Then qualifying went well, for example, but I made a mistake in the Grand Prix. Or I drove a great catch-up race after a failed qualifying.”

However, Norris believes he takes the sport a lot more seriously than his quirky personality suggests. “I turned a switch at the end of last year and now I take the sport a lot more seriously than before,” said the 22-year-old. “On and off the track. Not that I used to throw the hat at it, but I have taken it up a notch and tinkered a lot with myself.” (Quotes translated from Google)

Norris: My record this season is no coincidence

The Briton believes his scoring streak this season speaks volumes of his improved attitude in F1. He said, “It’s no coincidence that I’m the only driver this season to score World Cup points in all races. We fought for that. It might be a boring answer, but this sport is all about hard work.

“F1 drivers are demanding. I am constantly growing and learning and I expect the same from my team.”

With the Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend, Norris will look to continue his impressive scoring streak in 2021. However, he will also be keen to avoid picking up any more penalty points while he tethers on the edge of receiving a race ban for accumulating 12 penalty points in a 12-month period.
