One of the UK’s biggest ever comedians is back on the road after a long time away, with Peter Kay set to take part in two special stand-up gigs

The 48-year-old has confirmed he’ll be putting on shows in August in order to help 21-year-old university student, Laura Nuttall, by raising money for her cancer treatment.

Laura was first diagnosed with an aggressive type of brain cancer called glioblastoma multiforme in 2018.

The new shows mark an incredibly philanthropic return for Kay, who has been away from live comedy for years.

Despite a surprise appearance at a charity screening of his series Car Share in 2018, and a brief return in January 2021 during an appearance on BBC Radio 2 to chat to Cat Deeley, Peter has been out of the public eye for a considerable time.

The concerts mark a rare chance to see him live – here’s everything you need to know.

The stand-up will be performing two shows, made up of interactive Q&As, at the Manchester O2 Apollo on August 7.

Both performances will take place on the same day, with the matinee at 1.30pm and the evening show at 6.30pm.

Tickets are due to go on sale on July 30 at 9am. They can be bought here.

Fans can also make donations to Laura’s GoFundMe here.

Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk about Peter’s comeback in her honour, Laura said: ‘He’s such a nice person, he’s an absolute gentleman and he just wants to help everyone anyway he can.

‘Honestly, anything you’ve heard about him doesn’t do him justice. He’s such a nice man and I feel so honoured he’s going to do this, his first performance in years, for me.’

She added: ‘Next time I see him, which is probably going to be on the 7th, I’m going to give him a big, big hug.’
