Shakira has admitted that she doesn’t play her own music in the house for her two young boys to listen to.

The Colombian pop icon released her latest summer hit Don’t Wait Up earlier this month and, in an interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada, the singer confessed that her family isn’t necessarily her go-to for feedback on new music.

And, while she believes her kids Milan, eight, and Sasha, six, appreciate her music, the 44-year-old star does not usually play her songs to them.

‘I don’t make them listen to my music,’ admitted Shakira. ’I try to avoid playing my own music in my house, in my own environment.

‘I try to give them as much normalcy as I can,’ continued the Hips Don’t Lie singer, who has been in a relationship with Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué since 2011.

‘I can’t deny they can’t escape the reality that I’m a public person, as well as their dad. But we try to provide as much normalcy as we can, and live really as very simple people.’

As far as her partner is concerned, he also isn’t of much help when it comes to sharing his opinions on the star’s new music. According to Shakira, he has ‘no idea about anything related to my business.’

‘He doesn’t understand videos very well,’ added the singer. ‘He’s like, “OK, what are videos for? I don’t understand! It has nothing to do with the song!” I’m like, “OK, you know what, let’s not discuss this right now!“’

However, while Shakira herself isn’t always sure why she asks Piqué for his opinion, knowing she will get ‘some strange answer’ back, she still finds his take very interesting since ultimately he’s ‘my family, I always like to ask him what he thinks.’

His complete bafflement when it comes to music videos is kind of ironic considering the pair first met in the Spring of 2010 when he appeared in the music video for Shakira’s song Waka Waka for the 2010 World Cup.

They have been together for about a decade now, with Piqué being a whole 10 years her junior.
