Ted Lasso is the gift that keeps on giving, with season 2 of the Jason Sudeikis-led comedy proving a massive hit upon its return to Apple TV Plus.

Fans of the show are raving about the premiere, which follows Coach Lasso’s efforts to rally AFC Richmond as they strive to get back into the top tier of English football.

Amid the critical acclaim of the series, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Ted Lasso delivered the largest opening weekend ever for Apple TV Plus, the company claimed.

According to Apple, when Ted Lasso season two premiered on Friday July 23, over the course of that weekend, Apple TV Plus boosted its number of new viewers by 50% week over week.

Furthermore, the number of people who tuned in to watch the new season’s premiere was six times greater than the number who watched the season one launch in 2020, Deadline reported.

The second season of Ted Lasso was made available to watch in more than 100 countries around the world.

Apple claimed to have increased its viewership by 200% for the season two premiere in comparison to the previous weekend in countries including the US, the UK, France, Brazil, Mexico and more.

However, the firm did not provide actual numbers of viewers.

While there is currently only one episode out from the new season, with the next episode being released on Friday July 30, fans are ecstatic that the show has returned.

‘TED LASSO SEASON 2 IS OUT!!! I honestly don’t think any other show has ever put me in such an instantly good mood. The happiness and optimism is contagious,’ one person tweeted.

‘Only getting one episode of Season 2 in #TedLasso is painful. It was glorious but I’m gonna need more!!!’ another said.

At the premiere for season two, Jason showed his support for England footballers Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka by wearing a sweatshirt with their names on the front.

The actor made his show of support after the footballers were unable to score penalties in the Euro 2020 final against Italy and later suffered abhorrent racist abuse on social media.

Ted Lasso is available to watch on Apple TV Plus.
