Wimbledon Finalist Karolina Pliskova Stunned By Italy’s Camila Giorgi at Tokyo Olympics 2020

It was the third round of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and fans witnessed quite a big upset there. The Wimbledon Championships 2021 runner-up Karolina Pliskova suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of World No.61 Camila Giorgi. The Italian player thrashed her in straight sets and advanced to the quarters of the tournament. The final scoreline of the match was 6-4, 6-2.

Set-1: Camila Giorgi Stuns Karolina Pliskova

Karolina Pliskova began the set on a high as she won the first game of the first set quite easily. However, the Italian struck back in the next game and equalized the scoreline at 1-1. It was Giorgi who broke first in the third game and was now leading 1-2. However, Pliskova broke back to level the scoreline once again at 2-2.

Giorgi was in some incredible form and broke yet again in the fifth game. Thus, she established a 3-2 lead over Pliskova and didn’t allow her to break after that.

The one who served continued to win after this. As a result, Giorgi won the set 6-4, on her second set-point in 45 minutes.

Set-2: Final nail in the coffin of Pliskova

Giorgi began from where she left in the second set. She broke in the very first game and won the subsequent game as well to establish a 2-0 lead over World No.7 Pliskova. Even though the Czech player tried to play some attacking tennis, she was not able to hit her shots properly. Thus, she never managed to make a comeback during the match.

In the fifth game, Giorgi broke yet again and extended her margin to 4-1. She won the following game and was now just one game away from reaching the quarter-finals of the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

She finished it off soon in the eighth game after conquering the set 6-2 in 31 minutes, and thus won the match in straight sets.
