Wrestling legend Super Porky dies aged 58 as WWE stars Bronson Reed and Santos Escobar lead tributes

Mexican wrestling legend Super Porky has died aged 58.

The former WWE, CMLL and AAA star, who became one of the industry’s most beloved comedy workers, has received an outpouring of love from fellow wrestlers around the world reacting to the sad news.

Talk show Mas Lucha announced his death on Monday night’s show, while both CMLL and AAA shared tributes.

In a translated tweeted, AAA wrote: ‘The family #LuchaLibreAAA Worldwide joins in prayer for the eternal rest of José Luis Alvarado Nieves “Brazo de Plata” “Super Porky”. Legend of Mexican Wrestling.’

Debuting as masked star Brazo de Plata (Silver Arm), he teamed with brother Brazo de Oro (Gold Arm) from 1977 to 1988.

He started a two-decade run with CMLL in 1985 as he teamed with other members of his own Alvarado family and eventually became Super Porky as he embraced a comedic style.

This led to a brief WWE run as part of the Junior division in 2005, although the whole group was released the following year.

He then made the move to AAA and remained there until 2009, when he worked on the independent scene and appeared for CMLL until 2016.

Current NXT star Santos Escobar paid tribute to the late wrestler as he said: ‘I LOVE YOU Pepito Rest in Peace Silver Arm “Super Porky” my condolences to the entire Alvarado family, today the Celestial Arena receives a legend (sic)’

Franky Monet, who also appears on the black and gold brand, added: ‘RIP Super Porky… my condolences to the Alvarado family’.

Their co-star Bronson Reed shared a picture of Porky, and simply said ‘RIP’ alongside a prayer hands emoji.

Former WWE wrestler Cinta De Oro – who was known as Sin Cara before leaving the company – wrote: ‘Sad news for all of us who love Lucha Libre, today Super Porky better known as #BrazodePlata he went to the Celestial Arena.

‘Now the Musketeers are together. Our condolences to his children, his family and his friends.’
