Aaron Rodgers Calling the Shots as Green Bay Packers Close in on Trade to Bring Back Randall Cobb
After months of speculation, Aaron Rodgers finally turned up to Lambeau Field for training camp. The Green Bay Packers quarterback who was apparently holding out for a trade skipped OTAs and minicamp to signal his discontent with the franchise’s front office.
Drafting his replacement in 2020 and not providing him the tools required on offense for years, it’s clear to see why Rodgers wasn’t keen on returning to Green Bay.
But after putting on an MVP season in 2020, the franchise were desperate to keep hold of their star QB. And they apparently seem to have been able to do so by brokering a deal with Aaron Rodgers.
Aaron Rodgers likely behind Randal Cobb trade
Among the caveats as part of the new deal brokered between Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers includes voiding the QB’s 2023 year of his current contract and not placing the franchise tag on him in the near future.
While this hints at Aaron Rodgers not staying at Green Bay beyond 2022, the quarterback apparently had another demand as well – trading for wide receiver Randall Cobb.

Cobb, now a part of the Houston Texans, was drafted by the Packers franchise in 2011. After spending eight seasons at Lambeau Field, the wide receiver spent a year in Dallas and then Houston.
And as per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, a trade for Cobb is something that Rodgers specifically asked for.
As the #Packers work to finalize QB Aaron Rodgers’ reworked contract, the trade of old friend & current #Texans WR Randall Cobb is also waiting to be finalized (with the cap in mind). All indications are both should happen, and that the Cobb trade was a specific Rodgers request.

For Cobb, a return to Green Bay would be the dream scenario. Getting away from the dysfunctional mess that the Houston Texans have become to play once again for Aaron Rodgers will be a breath of fresh air for his career.
And if the Packers do manage to make the trade, it shows just how much power the quarterback now wields at Green Bay.
