Leigh-Anne Pinnock nominated for 2021 Ethnicity Awards alongside England football team for standing against racism

Little Mix singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock has been nominated alongside the England football team, as well as Naga Munchetty, at the 2021 Ethnicity Awards for their backing of anti-racism causes.
Leigh-Anne has been nominated alongside the Three Lions team in the media progress moment category, with the singer’s documentary Race, Pop and Power, released in May, following the pop singer as she confronted her experience as the only Black member of Little Mix as well as a Black woman in the music industry.
Meanwhile, the Gareth Southgate-led team, including Marcus Rashford, Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka, was nominated for its united stand against racism in football by taking the knee during the Euro 2020 tournament.
Rounding out the category are also Loose Women’s first all-Black panel, as well as Netflix’s hit drama Bridgerton.
The awards, which take place in November (which fans can vote for now), aim to recognise individuals with a track record of working to advance equality and opportunity for Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups in society.
This year’s roster saw an array of inspirational celebrities and public figures leading the nominations.

In the inspirational public leader category, supermodel Naomi Campbell has been shortlisted for her charity work in South Africa, while Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain made the list being a prominent campaigner for people affected by mental health issues.
Nominated in the same category is also Henry Golding, John Boyega, Regé-Jean Page, Sandra Oh and Sophie Okonedo.
Beverly Knight has also received a nod for her commitment to equality issues.
Among other musical artists recognised for their efforts are Zayn Malik, Celeste and Mabel.
Many TV presenters are also being celebrated by the Ethnicity Awards, including This Morning’s Alison Hammond and Gok Wan, BBC Breakfast’s Naga, Romesh Ranganathan and Nish Kumar.

Founder of the Ethnicity Awards, Sarah Garrett MBE, said: ‘All of those on the shortlist have used their platforms to shine a light on the issues facing the Black and minority ethnic community in what continue to be challenging times for people of colour.
‘The fact that England footballers need to call out racism shows that we still have a long way to go to level the playing field for all people regardless of ethnicity.’
