Peter Capaldi talks differences between Suicide Squad and ‘cobbled together’ Doctor Who stint

Peter Capaldi has opened up about the differences between filming for the Suicide Squad, and his Doctor Who stint.

The 63-year-old stars as The Thinker in the blockbuster, which is released in cinemas on July 30, joining a star-studded cast alongside Idris Elba, Margot Robbie and John Cena.

Not too shabby at all.

In a candid chat with Digital Spy about his latest role, he compared it to his former ‘cobbled together’ sci-fi hit, where he played the 12th Doctor in series eight-10.

‘[The Suicide Squad] was totally different [to Doctor Who] because it was so much bigger. I mean that everything about it what was bigger,’ he said.

‘And also, you know, we had this incredible cast…also there was more money, you know, like Doctor Who, we don’t, we don’t really have enough — everything on Doctor Who falls to pieces, all of the props fall to pieces and the costumes have to be stuck together with duct tape and velcro and stuff…

‘I like the kind of B movie kind of cobbled together, quality of it, you know that it’s really there’s never really quite enough money, but the ideas are often very special that’s what I like, but it’s also nice to be somewhere where they do have enough money to make the monsters look…scary.’

We’ll soon be seeing Peter on the big screen once more when Suicide Squad lands in cinemas later this week – and it’s fair to say that fans are pumped for the flick.

Director James Gunn has opened up about his process behind picking the superheroes for his movie, including controversial villain Polka-Dot Man.

In case you’re not quite familiar, he is one of Batman’s enemies, and uses polka dots to conduct his crimes.

David Dastmalchian will be making the character his own in his latest outing, with James spilling the beans on why exactly he wanted to feature the villain.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other press at a conference for the upcoming movie, the filmmaker said: ‘I selected them all in very different ways.

‘There were some characters like Harley [Quinn, played by Margot Robbie] who I wanted to put in the movie and [Captain Boomerang, played by Jai Courtney]. I liked them a lot, and I like the actors who have played them.

‘But then there were other characters like Polka-Dot Man. I really wanted to use a character who was thought of as a lame supervillain.

‘I literally put into Google “who is the dumbest super villain of all time” and Polka-Dot Man always came up near the top. Being able to take a character like that and then give him heart was fun for me.’

Will this span a Polka-Dot Man franchise? Nothing would surprise us.

The Suicide Squad will be released in the UK on July 30.
