The Grand Tour’s Richard Hammond breaks silence on being banned from Jeremy Clarkson’s farm

THE Grand Tour star Richard Hammond has broken his silence on being banned from Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat farm.

The TV host addressed the brutal “banning” as he appeared live on This Morning on Wednesday from the living room of his home.

Richard, 51, who is best known for appearing on Top Gear alongside old pal Jeremy, 61, was due to chat about the latest special of The Grand Tour.

But conversation quickly turned away from the lockdown edition of the Amazon Prime show, as he was asked about Jeremy’s recent comments.

The farm owner had told his fans that Richard and their co-host James May would not be allowed on his farm “in a million years” to film for the show.

“Can we get a cameo from Richard Hammond and Captain Slow?” one fan had asked on Twitter, to which Jeremy replied: “Not in a million years.”

This Morning host Eamonn Holmes addressed that he and James had been “banned from being on the farm” by Jeremy in the interview.

A clearly upset Richard replied, crying out and waving his arms frantically in protest of the comments: “I read that!”

Instead of taking it any further, the TV presenter instead paid his co-host a number of compliments on his farming show, Clarkson’s Farm.

‘I LOVE THE SHOW – IT IS A GENUINE PASSION’

Richard admitted that he “loved” watching the hilarious series due to Jeremy’s “genuine passion” for farming.

“I love the show, and the key thing about this show, and you can tell the minute you watch it, it is a genuine passion and I know that about him anyway,” he told Eamonn.

“But it’s not for effect, it’s not for telly, it genuinely is something he wanted to do and wanted to get to grips with himself.

“And that’s fantastic. That shines through. It wouldn’t be as convincing and as entertaining as it is if it weren’t true so that’s what’s at the heart of it.”

Richard concluded that while they remained great friends, he, Jeremy and James were all busy “doing stuff to occupy themselves” as they got older.

It comes after Jeremy confirmed that his hit farming show will return for a second series on Amazon Prime Video after it broke ratings records.

In a Twitter post, Clarkson wrote: “I can reveal now that contrary to various silly reports, the farming show was never cancelled. Amazon were just as keen as us to get cracking. And now we are doing.”

The show’s future had been in doubt, after Clarkson announced that a new series had not been comissioned.

He tweeted: “Dear everyone. There has been some speculation that a second series of our farming programme has been commissioned. It hasn’t but we are hopeful.”

Viewers can expect a deeper insight into another year on Diddly Squat Farm as Jeremy aims to diversify, expanding his limited agricultural knowledge under the watchful eye of his no-nonsense team.

This includes tractor driver Kaleb, stone wall favourite Gerald, advisor ‘Cheerful’ Charlie, Jeremy’s better-half-turned-farm-shop-keeper Lisa and many more.

Series two promises to bring more laughs, triumphs and tribulations, and of course more farming faux pas, as we follow Jeremy and co on their agricultural adventure.

Jeremy said: “I’m absolutely delighted that, once again you’ll be able to spend some time with Cheerful Charlie, Gerald, Lisa and of course, Kaleb. We are such a happy team.”

This Morning airs week days from 11am on ITV.
