Maybe Marvel’s Black Widow tempted you back to the cinema. Perhaps you’re waiting to watch James Bond on the big screen.

Or, it could be that a supernatural drama about a half-human, half-lamb will get you back into a seat at the cinema.

The absolutely bananas trailer for A24’s latest foray into creepiness Lamb has dropped, and if you were unsettled by Midsommar, the production company just said ‘hold my beer’.

The drama revolves around Icelandic couple María and Ingvar, played by Noomi Rapace and Hilmir Snaer Gudnason, farmers who are grieving the loss of a child.

One of their ewes gives birth to a bizarre lamb hybrid, and the grieving couple adopt her as their own child, calling the lamb Ada.

While the unorthodox family starts off swaddled in love, things get a bit more difficult when Ingvar’s brother Pétur (Björn Hlynur Haraldsson) shows up and sees who, or what, his brother and sister-in-law are raising.

The super creepy trailer features rather masterful use of the Beach Boys classic God Only Knows, and we’ll probably never hear the love song the same way again.

Lamb, directed by Valdimar Jóhannsson premiered at Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section, where it won the Prize of Originality.

No surprise when one of its main characters is a lamb that walks upright.

Rapace, best known for playing Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series, said after being cast in the film: ‘A script like this is rare and I directly felt that I had to do it. I’ve never done anything like this before and I can’t wait to start filming and go back to my roots in Iceland.’

The Swedish actress moved to Iceland when she was five years old, and speaks fluent Icelandic.

Entertainment company A24 has produced many big screen success, including Ex Machina, Moonlight, Lady Bird, The Disaster Artist and Uncut Gems.

However, it has become best known for its unsettling, weird and downright terrifying horrors, including The Lighthouse, Hereditary and Midsommar.

So essentially – get ready for some nightmares after Lamb.

Lamb is out on October 8.
