How would you react if you were told an ornament you used to prop the door open could be valued at £1m?

That’s the situation one couple find themselves in on the new series of Fake or Fortune, while having a family heirloom evaluation by Fiona Bruce and Philip Mould.

It’s not just an old door stop, of course.

As Fiona explained on The One Show this week, couple Fiona and Philip decided to reach out about the item after believing it could have been by a hugely significant 20th century artist.

They wanted to discover whether the sculpture was in fact an original piece with hugely popular sculptor Henry Moore.

In a clip from the upcoming series, Fiona’s co-star Philip Mould said that it could be worth a staggering £1m.

‘If we can prove that this is a one-off – not one of a series, but a unique object by a much loved, highly regarded sculptor of the 20th century – we could be talking in excess of half a million pounds.’

He added: ‘Who knows, could even be a million pounds’

‘Up to a million?’ a shocked Fiona asked.

Barbara described it as ‘extraordinary’ before explaining how they had been using it to prop open the door.

Speaking to One Show presenter Alex Jones, Fiona added: ‘For some people it is life-changing. So for Neil and Barbara – up to a million pounds – I mean I didn’t know you were going to say that when you said that Phillip.

‘So I was as gobsmacked as they were. That is a life-changing moment,’ she added.

Discussing her emotional reaction to the episode, Fiona added: ‘There was not a dry eye in the house, including my own.’

Fake or Fortune airs on Wednesday nights at 9pm on BBC One. The One Show airs on weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
