The stars of Loose Women have heavily condemned Wayne Rooney after pictures of him in a nightclub and a hotel room with women went viral.

Earlier this week, Wayne, 35, issued an apology to his family and football club over the images, with the former footballer captured asleep in a hotel room with scantily-clad women over the weekend.

There was no suggestion of wrongdoing on Wayne’s part and the football manager later contacted the police, claiming that he was blackmailed over the photos.

In his apology, Wayne said that he ‘made a mistake’ having gone to ‘a private party with two of my friends’, saying ‘I would like to apologise to my family and the club for the images which were going round’.

On Thursday’s edition of Loose Women, Charlene White asked the panel if they believe a relationship can last if there has been lying in the past, as while there was no indication in the pictures that Wayne cheated on his wife Coleen Roney, their relationship has been rocked with scandal in the past.

Linda Robson stated that in her opinion, Wayne, who shares four children with Coleen, ‘needs to grow up’.

‘He’s 35 now, he’s got children, he’s got a lovely wife. How many times is he going to be caught in a position like that? Surely he’s learnt by all the mistakes he’s made in the past,’ she said.

‘All I can say is if it was my partner, I’d be really upset. If he went back to a hotel room and there were scantily-clad women, I’d be really upset.’

Gloria Hunniford remarked that if her husband was caught in a similar situation, she would be ‘so furious’, because she is ‘100% in my marriage’.

‘I just think for a married man with children and so on, to continually do it, I am bored out of my head reading his apologies because it happens over and over again, and I feel very sorry for Coleen,’ she added.

Gloria imagined it must be ‘embarrassing’ for Coleen, stating that as a manager of a football club, Wayne is setting an example for young footballers and so ‘has to grow up’.

Kelle Bryan recalled her experience of being cheated on in the past, receiving support from her family and friends at the time as she decided to give the past relationship another go.

‘It takes a lot of courage for the woman and it takes a lot of courage for Coleen, because we know from the past she has forgiven him and given it another go. That in itself takes courage,’ she noted.

Linda continued to emphasise how strenuously she opposed Wayne’s actions, stressing that as a ‘high-profile’ individual, ‘he knows where he goes, there’s going to be someone with a phone taking pictures’.

‘How many times is he going to get caught like that? It’s ridiculous. If it’d been me, I would’ve been on the phone to the solicitor straight away,’ she said.

‘He owes it to his family and the football club. If you’re going to be a manager, you have to set some kind of standard to your young players whom you’re nurturing,’ Gloria added.

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
