Why do the Love Islanders wear sunglasses in bed?

Waking up with your sunglasses on is commonplace in Love Island (Picture: ITV)

Love Island has been bringing the drama to our screens once again this year – with the Casa Amor twist sending shockwaves through the main villa as the boys’ loyalty is put to the ultimate test.

The show’s been on the air for a few weeks now, and we’ve become accustomed to the Islanders’ little habits – from Hugo’s unexpected catchphrases through to everybody steering clear of the pool, again.

There’s one thing we can’t quite get our head around though – and that’s the cast’s fondness for waking up in the morning with their shades on.

Just why do the Islanders wear their sunglasses in bed? We’ve got the answer right here…

Why do the Love Islanders wear sunglasses in bed?

The issue of sunglasses in bed is one which has left viewers baffled – but apparently there’s a pretty simple explanation for it.

Former Islander Elma Pazar – who took part in the 2019 series of the show – took to social media to explain to a fan that it’s all to do with the bright lights in the bedroom – as well as how everybody looks when they’ve been asleep for hours.

‘The light is so bright when it flicks on and also I don’t know many people that wake up pretty in the mornings,’ she said.

The only thing I’ve taken away from Love Island is that it looks really cool to put on sunglasses as soon as you wake up

‘The more of the face hidden before it’s washed the better.’

If you want to wake up looking like a Love Islander in the morning, you can get your own pair of sunglasses from the 2021 Love Island range, available from BadHero and I Saw it First.

They have their reasons (Picture: ITV)

The latter are also the official fashion suppliers of the show, and make weekly drops of clothes to the villa based on the Islanders’ individual tastes, after meeting with them prior to the show and getting an idea of their style.

They’ve also got a dedicated Love Island section on their site, where you can buy outfits based on each individual contestant’s look.

Love Island continues on ITV2 tonight at 9pm.
