Peter Kay fans ‘gutted’ as tickets for his return to the stage sell out in 30 minutes

Peter Kay’s long-awaited return to the spotlight has been met with a fervent response from fans, as tickets to his stage shows sold out in less than 30 minutes.
While many are delighted at scoring a seat to one of his rare gigs, others have been left ‘gutted’ at missing out.
The comedian, who has been largely absent from the public eye for the last three years, will host two live Q&As in aid of Laura Nuttall, 20, who has an aggressive type of brain cancer called glioblastoma multiforme.
The two shows, called Doing It For Laura, will take place at the 3,500-capacity O2 Apollo Manchester on August 7.
Both events – at 1.30pm and 6.30pm – sold out within half an hour of going on sale at 9am on Friday and fans were then directed towards a waiting list.
Taking to Twitter as the precious tickets sold out like hotcakes, one Kay fan wrote: ‘sold out in less than a minute!! Gutted, I was so close but no such luck this time.’
Another asked: ‘@Peterkay went online at 9 a.m. @ticketmaster in queue for 25 secs….no tickets left….how do people get tickets???’
However, there were plenty of comedy-lovers who were overjoyed at bagging tickets to one of the two shows, with one particularly enthused fan writing they were ‘absolutely buzzing.’
Ms Nuttall, who has just completed her second year at Manchester University where she is studying philosophy, politics and economics, will be in the audience with her family.
She was diagnosed with brain cancer when she was in her first term at Kings College University in London at the age of 18, following a series of headaches.
Her mother Nicola and father Mark first met Kay when they were working at Granada Television almost two decades ago and said they received an unexpected call from the star in January 2019 after Laura was diagnosed.
Ms Nuttall previously told Metro.co.uk that she can’t wait to give him a ‘big hug’.

‘He’s such a nice person, he’s an absolute gentleman and he just wants to help everyone anyway he can,’ she said.
‘Honestly, anything you’ve heard about him doesn’t do him justice. He’s such a nice man and I feel so honoured he’s going to do this, his first performance in years, for me.
‘Next time I see him, which is probably going to be on the 7th, I’m going to give him a big, big hug.’
Kay has been largely out of the spotlight since a surprise appearance at a charity screening of his series Car Share in 2018, but made a brief return in January 2021 when he appeared on BBC Radio 2 to chat to Cat Deeley about his love of music, mixtapes and the musical Mamma Mia.
He cancelled his last tour in December 2017, citing ‘unforeseen family circumstances’.
